Homeboy Sandman grew up in Queens, the son of a heavyweight boxer from the Dominican Republic. Sandman emerged on the hip-hop scene in 2007 and within a year was being priased by XXL for “sharp lyrics and an irresistibly melodic flow which, together, form an elastic instrument which few MCs can match.”
His Stones Throw debut First of a Living Breed follows a string of singles, EPs and videos dropped throughout the year, and cements his rep as a rapper with a penchant for weaving witticism into even his most serious messages. Rolling Stone recently branded him an “Artist to Watch” and priased his “skill for wordplay that keeps you hooked.”
